"Eh? Dancing?" Jonathan was getting so many looks. Rude. He was dating him, he had claimed him, it was his prize! He moved his chair around the circular table, making a dragging sound, as he slid in closer to Jonathan. There. He would sit on his lap if he had to. "I'll just get the pancakes with beef. I love beef. It's the best of the meats."
He reached out and took Jonathan's hand stubbornly, even if it was very awkward for Jonathan, who was trying to look at a menu. "You don't eat enough meat. You should get beef too!"
"Eat more meat? Are you my auntie now?" Jonathan, naturally, was amused. Still, he let Xinjia hold his hand, threading their fingers together as he considered the option. "I'm not young like you, if I eat that heavy I won't be much good for you."
One had to consider such things. He looked at the menu again and then shrugged, closing it. He turned to look at his boyfriend with a smirk. "If you let me have the cold noodles now, I promise I'll eat your meat later. Won't that make up for it?"
Questionably whether Xinjia would even be able to follow that. At the very least he anticipated it taking a few seconds.
"You can't eat my meat, order your own!" No, he didn't get it. Not at first. It took a few moments before it finally dawned on him and his eyes enlarged in embarrassment. "Ah! You're messing around. You always mess around! I -- I'm still not giving you my left over beef." He huffed in annoyance and would have left go of Jonathan's hand but there were too many stray, horny people lurking around. After his man.
He watched one man smile at Jonathan, raising a hand in greeting. He tried to glare him down. "Jie-ge, I'm not good at dancing." Did he have to be good? He didn't know. He had never gone to a club with dancing before.
The man who raised his hand did look vaguely familiar, so Jonathan gave him a nod before turning his full attention to Xinjia again, tilting his head to the side. "I don't expect you to be. They do say that dancing in a club is like sex with clothes on and you needed a while to figure out sex too."
He was just stating the obvious. Teasingly, obviously. He leaned forward, so he could lower his voice even in the noisy restaurant. "I'll teach you. Try not to worry." Always his issue, letting his anxiety get the better of him,
The waitress came over and Jonathan ordered for them both, taking charge without really thinking about it. It seemed wise to not put more pressure onto Xinjia.
Was he bad at sex?! Was that the problem? He thought he had gotten pretty good after a bit of a shaky start. He felt he had figured it out swiftly. He definitely needed to improve if he wanted to keep Jonathan away from that hot guy. And all the hot guys. And girls! Not that he was sure if Jonathan liked them but even so. He would just have to watch a lot of gay porn.
As Jonathan finished ordering, Xinjia snapped himself out of his plans and looked at Jonathan with a small frown. "I'll learn fast. I'm sure of it." Cause he was a sexy badass. "You know, my English is better. I understood what you said." Mostly.
"You are learning really fast," he reassured him, while checking his phone for messages. He put it back into his pocket after a few seconds, wanting to keep his undivided focus on Xinjia. He was always worth watching, after all. "You always learn fast. I wouldn't have taken you here if you'd not been worth the investment."
Clearly it was paying off. "I haven't been bored for a second since I've met you. It's never difficult to find people." Because, yes, he was aware of that insecurity and the simmering jealousy. It was cute. "But I don't often find someone I want."
"Cause I'm special." Xinjia stated firmly so that Jonathan couldn't forget about it. "You're special too though. My prize. So we belong together. Like destiny or something. No one you meet you could ever meet like you met me!" Which was very true. How often did a pathetically bad assassin find a date with his target. They were unique for sure.
He smiled at Jonathan and then finally, he let go of his hand. When the drinks came, he nodded thanks and took a sip of his. Non-alcoholic. He got drunk far too easily, he had to pace himself. "I never thought I'd leave Taiwan, it's so weird to be here." In the States. After being on a fancy plane. It was so cool. "No wonder people stay and open places, it's cool to be abroad."
"I'm glad you like it." He had been slightly worried, still was a little, that Xinjia would feel too overwhelmed and nervous to truly enjoy the experience of being here. They were still in the honeymoon phase though, something that he understood better than Xinjia with his lack of experience could. All the more reason to make the most of it. "I'll take you to a gay club today. Maybe you'll meet some new friends."
It might be good for him, have some friends his age. He was not worried about his loyalty. Still, he could flatter him a little. "I'll just have to keep an eye on things, so that no one can steal you away from me."
"I'm only dancing with you and you're only dancing with me. It's a rule. I won't let go of your hand so don't try to lose me either." He didn't want to get lost in New York and he didn't want anyone else to steal his Jonathan. He didn't know what he'd do if he lost him. He'd be stranded and alone in a strange city without his lover.
No, he wouldn't let it happen. He'd tear down the city to find him. "I prefer being with you than anyone else. Most people are jerks or assholes. And you're an asshole but you're kinda... you're not always an asshole." It wasn't something he had expected to find in his life.
"I thought you preferred Tao, because he was nice to you so selflessly. Not like me, I'm only nice when I'm playing a game." He said it with amusement in his voice and a smirk on his face, remembering the accusation all too vividly. What a cute guy he was. He felt bad for him in some ways, to be this sweet and still this distrusting, he knew he hadn't had an easy life. Made him feel protective. Also made him want to poke, just a little.
"I'm not letting go of you, don't worry. I'll be the one taking you home tonight. Then I'll take you at home."
"Tao is nice but he never flew me to America. Then again, he never stole my money." Xinjia said it pointedly, glaring at his boyfriend to show he was still not over it. "I said you're an asshole. I guess sometimes assholes are nice. Even if you're playing games." And he was definitely, always telling lies. Or, at least, those tricky half lies.
"I've known worse people. The guy I lived with was a real asshole. He sold all my stuff once when I went out for work. It was the worst!" He truly didn't have a lot of good life experiences, his bar for nice was relatively low. "It's a good thing, in the end. It meant all my stuff fit in a suitcase, eh?"
"Good to know you are an optimist. Such a puppy." He shook his head with a smile that came unbidden, too genuinely charmed. Luckily their food arrived just then and he thanked the waitress before reaching for the chopsticks. He knew from experience that Xinjia wasn't about to wait around before eating, so he didn't bother waiting either. They ate in silence, although Xinjia made appreciative noises that, quite frankly, he considered to be bordering on the obscene.
He finished up and then he sat there, elbows on the table, watching his boyfriend eat. "With the way you sound, you'll make me need to be less than gentlemanly soon. Such a tease." Turning him on without even realising.
"But it's so good! I wanted beef all day and this is so tasty." He appreciated it, he wanted everyone to know. He didn't ever eat this well until he met Jonathan. Usually he just ate instant food or very cheaply from local vendors. He didn't get the whole restaurant experience. He licked his lips eagerly and then looked at Jonathan, a little confused. "I'm not teasing. You have a dirty mind, is all."
He picked up a piece of beef with his chopstick and held it out stubbornly. "Try it. You have to. Then you can see how good it is!"
"I can see it just fine. I can see and I can hear." He leaned forward anyway, but instead of going for the beef, he went in for a kiss. It still tasted quite good that way, honestly, and it was a lot better for some of the other urges he was feeling. He moved back just a little, enough to whisper the one word on his mind right now. "Delicious."
He could go for more than that. Finally, he turned his head and stole the bite he was holding out after all, then he settled back in his seat. "M-hm. You've got good taste."
